Chris Jericho, the Ultimate Heel of Today

Who else today in the world of professional wrestling get’s attacked at a house show? Who else today get’s attacked out in a parking lot in his out country in the world of professional wrestling anymore? One man, the only man to hold the World Tag Team Championships by himself, the Undisputed Tag Team Champions, Chris Jericho!

Do you remember me
You can’t see the things
That make me who I am
You’ll never understand

I will admit, as I have in previous articles I have written and were published here on CamelClutchBlog.com, I am a huge Jericholic. I’ve always been since his days in the WWE, so have been for a decade now. I’ve been a fan of his when he was a face, but to be honest, I didn’t think he was taken seriously as a face. He got a few title shots at the WWE championship, but no one ever saw him as main event material.

And I gotta keep moving, you’re living off my sweat
Moving, the devil’s on my back
And these are the days that I dreamed about
And you’re always there to remind me

But when he was a heel, that’s when his wrestling ability and skill came out, I believe. I loved his face promos, but his heels are up there with the best mic workers in the business, guys like ‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper, the ‘Nature Boy’ Ric Flair, and the ‘Only Olympic Gold Medalist in Professional Wrestling Today’ Kurt Angle. As a heel, he was able to show off what he could do as Tag Team Champions (like today), how he can evaluate the Intercontinental Championship (his run with Rey Mysterio), and as World Heavyweight Champion (fall of 2008).

You’re my enemy
All that we had has gone away
There are times that fade away
But you’ll still be my enemy

I cannot remember a heel hotter than Chris Jericho since the days of Roddy Piper and Ric Flair back in the 1980’s when they were in the WWF and NWA (respectively). I cannot think of anyone better than Jericho in the ring since the two legends I already mentioned. I do think that the WWE has a hot superstar right now and if they use him right, he can be the top heel for the company and could bring in huge draws with the top faces, and could help make new faces, and make new stars of the future.

The friend you had in me
You turned on so easily
I'm sad to see you go
At least now I know

People can say that he’s a hypocrite for turning his back on his fans to be a heel (Ricky ‘the Dragon’ Steamboat reference right here), but who else could be a hotter heel than Jericho? Randy Orton is there, and trying not to knock the guy, but Jericho has more experience to offer than Orton, and has more skill in the ring than Orton, in my opinion. Jericho is a diamond that I hope the WWE capitalizes on, I do believe that they can make the mega-bucks (Andre the Giant and ‘Million Dollar Man’ reference) with him as their top heel.

And I see clearly now
You tried to bleed me
And I see clearly now
You tried to feed on me

To conclude this article, the lyrics I used are Fozzy’s Enemy, Jericho’s band, from their third album ‘All That Remains,’ and I hope Jericho would be the WWE’s top heel and go against guys like Cena, Undertaker, and Michaels, before those guys get out and while Jericho still has his heat. Orton could take a lesson from Jericho on the mic, than Orton may become a hot heel like Mr. Jericho. Jericho, if you read this, thank you for the memories, and thanks for being my favorite wrestler, eeeeeeeeeeeever! This is Eric Darsie from Minnesota, loving Fozzy and loving the Jerichol I am drinking, goodbye!

What is Life?

What Is Life?

While on a walk this past summer, summer of 2009, I often stopped and wondered many different questions. One question that hit me hard and a question that I asked a lot of my friends is this: what is life? I got answers from them, but one friend challenged me to sit down and write out my thoughts on the question. When I did think more on this question, I couldn’t give it justice on an answer. So I had to break down the question into two new questions, after which I was able to give it justice and answer the new two. I answered the question what is life? with the answer what is a life with Christ? and what is life without Christ? I will break this article down into two parts, each part answering each question.

(1) What is life without Christ?

To be dead honest, absolutely nothing. I’ll clear this more in the second part of the article. But to backup what my answer, let’s look at Deuteronomy 30:20:

“…20loving the LORD your God, obeying his voice and holding fast to him, for he is your life and length of days, that you may dwell in the land that the LORD swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them. (ESV)”

What the heck is “…for he is your life and length of days...,” one may ask? If you make God your focus of your life, then He’s going to be the center of everything you do, say, etc. But what if someone doesn’t want to choose God as their center in their life, proverbially sent Him in a box and up on a shelf? One could do that then, but wouldn’t be truly following God if they do that. If that doesn’t make sense, let’s evaluate what’s center of your life. For me before I came to Christ, I was (and still am) a huge professional wrestling fan and one can say I was worshiping that day-in and day-out. I did go to church every week and even went to youth group every Wednesday night during my tenth grade year and part of my eleventh grade year. I wasn’t following Christ. I didn’t know that to follow Christ I had to pick up my cross and follow Him (Matthew 16:24 and Luke 9:23 )and not doing so, I wasn’t truly a Christian. How can we be a Christian? I’ll answer that in the next paragraph.

In John 1:4, it states:

“4In him was life, and that life was the light of men. (NIV)”

Okay, what does that mean? What John means by this verse is Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, our God, is life, and anything out of Him is absolutely not a life worth living, heck, really nothing when it comes to the end of days. Honestly, I am surprised that I have given this much time to this question, but hey, it needs to be answered right the first time around and it’s a great question, so it deserves a great answer, which I hope I’m giving. If you have more questions about this, feel free on asking me or any Christian that you know to help answer any question(s) that you man have, we’re here to help you out.

(2) What is a life with Christ?

A life with Christ is a life glorifying God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. I believe a Christian has resources that God provides every day of their life to help glorify Him, if they notice it or not, and if they do notice it, it’s their choice how to use it for His glory. For instance, using myself as an example again, I am a Christian, and I currently work at a copy shop at campus and have my own blog site on the internet. After finishing this article up, editing it, and making sure all sources are correct, I have those two sources to bring glory to God through this article that I am writing. If I put it up online at my blog site (http://www.jericholoic 2009.blogspot.com/), I didn’t bring full glory to God that I could by printing it off at work. And vice versa. My intent is to do both, print it off and put it online for people have different ways to get to this article.

There have been debates if Christians are elected by God or Christians have free will to come to Him for salvation. That’s another topic for quiet possibly another article from this philosopher, but either way, through Jesus is where we find life.

John 5:21 states:

21For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom he is pleased to give it. (NIV)

21For as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to whom he will. (ESV)

What does this verse state? And yes, before you ask more, I did put this verse twice in two different versions, I like how these two versions differ on the verse. It’s up to Jesus to give us life (eternal life, quite possible another article for another day from this philosopher) and we have to come to believe what He did here on Earth and what He did upon that cross for us 2000 years ago. Here’s another source to that. John 11:25 states:

25Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies…” (NIV)

What does Jesus mean that “…He who believes in me will live, even though he dies…?” Good question deserves a good answer, and this quote is great. What Jesus means by this, I do believe, personally and philosophically, that we will live with Him up in heaven after this life. Our bodies originally came from dust and He breathed life into us through Adam (Genesis 2:7 ) and made Eve from Adam’s rib (Genesis 2:22 ).

You may ask, what about the people who lived before Jesus’ time or after His time and never got a chance to make the decision to live for Him or not? Let’s jump into John 5:25-26. John 5:25-25 states as follows:

“25I tell you the truth, a time is coming and has now come when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear will live. 26For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son to have life in himself. (NIV)”

Okay. What does this passage mean? Another great question and here’s another great answer. Meaning that when Jesus was here on Earth, everyone dead before hand had the chance to hear Him speak and were able to make a decision to either follow or not. What a huge claim that doesn’t make sense. I cannot reason that. I really can’t. I cannot think of use any logic that would make that statement make sense. That’s what great about the God I love and the God I follow, we cannot fully understand. And if we fully understand, then we become God, and that’s impossible, even though we’re filled with Him (the Holy Spirit—Yeah!).

But to conclude this article, I hope that I was able to come through for the challenge that my friend challenged me to, on writing out what I believe is right for the question I posed several weeks ago at the college group meeting that we had. I am up to hear other people’s opinions about such a topic. I hope this also helps answer people’s question on “What is life?” or “What is the meaning of life?” or whatever comes out of the main question. I gave a lot of thought into this topic and enjoyed being able to spend a Saturday night during my summer break of college in trying to answer this question. I do hope I get more time to answer more questions that may arise while fellowshipping with one another. But thank you for your time on reading this, have a great day. WrestleMania VIII: A Match That Was Planned, but Never Happened

WrestleMania VIII: A Match That Was Planned, but Never Happened

What match am I referencing to with an article title of “WrestleMania VIII: A Match That Was Planned, but Never Happened?” Everyone had to of heard of the biggest angle Vince McMahon and creative wanted to do in 1991 when they brought in Ric Flair was to have him face Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania in 1992. The “Nature Boy” came into the WWE with the old NWA/WCW World Heavyweight Championship title belt, claiming to be “the real World’s Champion” and the “Immortal One” was the WWF World Heavyweight Champion, so something had to give. And with this as well, since Hogan became the WWF Champ back in 1984 people were wondering who the man, either Hogan or Flair is. The intent of the article is my intake of why I am happy this match never happened at WrestleMania VIII and to answer the long awaited question: Who’s the better wrestler, Hulk Hogan or Ric Flair?

Thinking about it while on a walk, listening to different wrestling radio shows, they mentioned something about Hogan-Flair match was planned for Mania VIII but never happened. I started to think of what the match would have been like if it would have happened. It would have been the biggest match of WrestleMania history, hands down, up to that match, and still would stand as one of the biggest, if not the biggest, now days. Everyone knows that the “Nature Boy” walked into the Hoosier Dome in Indianapolis, Indiana as WWF World Heavyweight Champion, the title he won only months earlier at the Royal Rumble, in the Rumble match itself, entering number three (cheap plug for Flair).

But personally, I don’t think this match would have been more than a one-sided affair. What do I mean by such? Hulk Hogan is McMahon’s baby, right? Right. Is Ric Flair McMahon’s baby, a ‘McMahon Creation?’ No. Ric Flair represented the competition to McMahon; Flair represented the Carolinas, Jim Crocket Promotions, World Championship Wrestling. I couldn’t see this match being more than 12 to 15 minutes, Flair dominating for about ten minutes, Hogan “Hulking Up” and beating Flair with the Big Boot and the Leg Drop and that would be it.

Here’s what I would love going back and seeing, if this match would of happened at the Hoosier Dome. We all know Hogan’s the greatest at 13 minute matches and Flair is great at 60 minute matches. Have those two go for 25 to 30 minutes. Hogan coming out first, doing his cupping-hand-to-ear-to-get-fans-up-and-cheering routine and then Flair coming out, having the WWF belt over his left shoulder, and when he unrobes, he’s wearing the World’s Championship, and throws the WWF belt down and holds up the World’s title, showing the world that the World title is more dominate than the WWF title. The match itself, I would love seeing going back and forth, and at the end, at everyone’s expense, Flair getting a pair of brass knuckles from his associate Mr. Perfect, knock out the Hulkster, put him in the Figure Four Leg Lock, the ref counting the shoulders, and it being over. Flair can get one over Hogan with the Figure Four and Hogan can get a dirty lose from Flair, which would set up their next match at the King of the Ring. And have this feud even go out to Summer Slam or even Survivor Series. I would love to see that.

Now to the other question that I posed at the beginning of this article, Who’s the greatest wrestler: Hulk Hogan or Ric Flair? Come on now, should I please the public or go with my opinion? Screw the public opinion, the greatest wrestler is Ric Flair, hands down! Why such a statement? Ric Flair never had to go outside of wrestling to make a name for himself. Ric Flair won more World Championships than Hogan did. Ric Flair can actually wrestle, Hogan can’t. If you ask any casual fan who’s the greatest wrestler, yeah, they’ll say Hogan. Why? Hogan’s the most profitable wrestler, I’ll admit that. But come on! What can Hogan do in the ring, technically, or holds wise, other than his boot to the face and dropping his leg on someone? Nothing, really. He can get the fans into his matches and can draw big matches and cards, I’ll give him that, but being a fan of this great industry since the late ‘80’s, I can’t help but be supportive of Ric Flair. I’m sure I hit a nerve with most people, so here’s my conclusion for my argument that Flair is better than Hogan. Flair can make anyone look better than what they were. Hogan couldn’t do that. Flair can go any distance in a match, time length, to make the match and his opponent look great. Hogan was done and out of the shower within 30 minutes. Do I really need to say more? I don’t believe I have to, so this is it about this all. This is Eric Darsie from Minnesota, on a dark Minnesota night, a cool night, jamming out to Elton John, goodbye!

Undraft the Draft McMahon!

Undraft the Draft McMahon!

I’ve been watching wrestling since I’ve came out of my Mother’s womb in ’88 weeks before the WWF Heavyweight Championship tournament at Trump Plaza at WrestleMania IV, so I’ve been watching the industry grow for over two decades, and I’ve seen a lot come, a lot go, and seen a lot of changes.

I’ve seen the trial that McMahon was in back in ’93, I’ve seen Hogan sign with WCW, I’ve seen the Heartbreak Kid enter number one in 1995 and win the Royal Rumble, the New World Order in 1996ish, the Monday Night War, Extreme Championship Wrestling making a rise, WCW and ECW being owned by Vincent Kennedy McMahon, and the split of the Raw, Smackdown, and ECW brands in the WWE. In all of that, the least I’ve enjoyed is the brand extension, or also known as the “Draft.”

In theory the “draft” was a good idea. Philosophically speaking and philosophically thinking, if done correctly, it could have been pulled off. How so? By changing everything up. No “draft trades,” to begin with. Yes, it was cool for the first eight to twelve weeks after the draft to see how the new superstars would be places on the new show, but after that, no one cared. Here’s what I think the “draft” would have worked.

I believe if McMahon and his writers would of kept all superstars from all three shows away from one another, meaning only bringing them together on the “Big Four” pay-per-views, I do believe that people would of believed more that they are “their own shows.” I think that McMahon dumped everything on its head when he stared to let guys appear on both (or now, all three) shows.

To end the draft now would help out the company. You may be asking yourself, “In what ways is this guy thinking? Who does this Eric Darsie think he is?” To answer the latter question first, I’ve been a fan of this sport, like said, since late 1988. I feel like I have the right to answer questions for watching this sport grow to what it was 21 years ago to what it is today. To answer the first question, the ways I am thinking is bringing the shows together as one, eliminate ECW on Tuesday nights, make Raw three hours long, showcase the mid-carders and openers on Superstars, and bring everyone together on Smackdown.

How would I believe this would be better than what is around today? More competition for all the superstars. We wouldn’t need two women’s champions running around. We wouldn’t need two mid-card champions running around. We could reduce the three World titles down to two, keeping the WWE and the World Heavyweight, and trying to put one better than the other, but keeping them different for the matches and the competitors who challenge for them.

I do personally think this would work. Thinking it out philosophically, I cannot currently see any flaws with this argument that I just presented. I am open to other people writing articles and such giving their rebuttals to my argument and give their reasoning for their beliefs. But please McMahon, undraft the draft. This is Eric Darsie from Minnesota, goodbye!
