Down for the Count with Eric Darsie: the First Ever among the Fozzy Fanatics

Welcome to the very first edition of “Down for the Count with Eric Darsie,” featuring one of your favorite writers here on CamelClutchBlog.com, me, Eric Robert Darsie (or at least I hope so, because you are reading this!). But after thinking over Thanksgiving and the days that proceeded, I thought of other possible ways could I contribute to help better CamelClutchBlog.com. Besides doing the ‘WWE Week-in-Review,’ the WWE pay-per-view preview and predictions, and the occasional wrestling flashbacks, I thought of this new idea. “Down for the Count with Eric Darsie”- where I give my thoughts and opinions on certain things, like bands, wrestlers, people, politics, the world, news, etc., so-on, and even so-forth. And after some consideration of what I could give my opinion on for the very first “Down for the Count with Eric Darise,” I thought what else would be better for me to write about other than….

FOZZY!

Why Fozzy, you may ask. If you have heard me on Eric Gargiulo’s Pro Wrestling Radio, I have publicly announced that I am a huge Jericholic. And it only would be fitting for me to give Chris Jericho’s outside-of-the-pro-wrestling-business-ventures a tryout. After buying their first two albums, Fozzy and Happenstance, I fell in love with the band. Their hard rock beats and their deep lyrics, they touched the rock-and-roll soul that I have inside.

But Fozzy, I really enjoy. The reason why I love them is because they aren’t played too much on the radio. Heck, I haven’t even heard them played on the radio before, and to be honest with you, I feel like the only reason behind that is because Chris Jericho is a professional wrestler. If that’s the case, I find that to be utter b.s.

Coming early January, Fozzy will come out with their fourth album since 2000, entitled “Chasing the Grail.” An album that will be capped after their last release back in 2005. The biggest song on the third album had to be “Enemy” because both TNA and the WWE used that song for a pay-per-view theme song. Maybe, just maybe, if Fozzy’s third album got some press from the wrestling fans, maybe after the fourth album gets put out, they may get a chance to be taken seriously.

And come Tuesday, December 15th, 2009, Fozzy’s single, Martyr No More, will be released on iTunes. I believe that everyone should go out and spend 99 cents to own it, because Fozzy rocks everyone’s socks off, and it will be the best 99 cents that you will ever spend (given if they sell it for 99 cents… http://www.fozzyrock.com/)!

WWE Survivor Series 2009 Review

Last night marked the 23rd World Wrestling Entertainment Survivor Survivor Series, and was main evented by the two World Championship Triple Threat matches. For me, I feel like those two matches were the biggest matches on the card, not to try to take away from the other four matches. I will admit, for the most part, this pay-per-view was better than expected. It may have been having six or so other friends over last night to watch Survivor Series and we had a little challenge going on to see that can do best on making predictions for the event, and I came out last, to everyone’s surprise. But let me talk about the two World title main events; the WWE Championship Triple Threat and the World Heavyweight Championship Triple Threat..

World Heavyweight Championship Triple Threat: the Big Show taps to Hell’s Gate!

A match that I expected to be horrible, just because of the limited move set of the Big Show and of the Undertaker. But I feel like this match turned out better than expected, and I would say this match was better than the World Heavyweight Championship Triple Threat match at WrestleMania 25 with John Cena, Edge, and the Big Show.

But at first, the Unified Tag Team Champions were working together at the start of the match. And as been teased the past several weeks on television, the Big Show and Chris Jericho finally did wrestle each other a couple of times. Even though they really didn’t totally go against each other, but when it seemed like they were teasing the finish, they would break it up and go against one another for a little while.

And right at the end, the Big Show hit Jericho with the “Turkey Punch (the Knock Out Punch),” he was going to Chokeslam the Undertaker, and the Dead Man pulled the Big Show in for Hell’s Gate and go the tap out. That made me sad. Made me sad because I wanted to see Chris Jericho win the World Heavyweight Championship last night, but Jericho wasn’t in the decision of the match, so could we see a Jericho/Undertaker feud for the World Heavyweight Title?

WWE Championship Triple Threat: Sweet Chin Music equals the first move of the match, to HHH!

A match that didn’t live up to the hype of what was being built up. Everyone I talked to, as well as me, thought this match was going to turn out as a joke, and it wasn’t. I was totally in love with this match. Michaels and Triple H came out together then Cena came out. And the first move of the match, a Sweet Chin Music to Triple H, out of the blue!

But after the first move, Cena was surprised and Michaels and Cena stood around for about a minute, selling what the Heartbreak Kid just did. But this match turned out to a lot of one-on-one encounters with the guys taking turns. And another spot that we saw of this match that surprised me was Triple H spinbustering Michaels through the announcer table.

But this match saw a lot of false finishes, like Shawn Michaels Sweet Chin Musicing Cena, and then Triple H and Triple H fell on top of Cena, and got a two count. But at the end, to everyone’s surprise (not really), Cena pinned Triple H. That was a shock to me, and then Triple H took the fall for Triple H. But a great match that I thought was going to suck.

Conclusion

But to conclude, I would suggest everyone to go out and buy this pay-per-view on DVD when it comes out on DVD here in a month or so. This was a better pay-per-view than expected. But this is Eric Darsie from Minnesota, tired from last night’s Survivor Series, goodbye!

Chris Jericho, the Ultimate Heel of Today

Who else today in the world of professional wrestling get’s attacked at a house show? Who else today get’s attacked out in a parking lot in his out country in the world of professional wrestling anymore? One man, the only man to hold the World Tag Team Championships by himself, the Undisputed Tag Team Champions, Chris Jericho!

I will admit, as I have in previous articles I have written and were published here on CamelClutchBlog.com, I am a huge Jericholic. I’ve always been since his days in the WWE, so have been for a decade now. I’ve been a fan of his when he was a face, but to be honest, I didn’t think he was taken seriously as a face. He got a few title shots at the WWE championship, but no one ever saw him as main event material.

And I gotta keep moving, you’re living off my sweat
Moving, the devil’s on my back
And these are the days that I dreamed about
And you’re always there to remind me

But when he was a heel, that’s when his wrestling ability and skill came out, I believe. I loved his face promos, but his heels are up there with the best mic workers in the business, guys like ‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper, the ‘Nature Boy’ Ric Flair, and the ‘Only Olympic Gold Medalist in Professional Wrestling Today’ Kurt Angle. As a heel, he was able to show off what he could do as Tag Team Champions (like today), how he can evaluate the Intercontinental Championship (his run with Rey Mysterio), and as World Heavyweight Champion (fall of 2008).

I cannot remember a heel hotter than Chris Jericho since the days of Roddy Piper and Ric Flair back in the 1980’s when they were in the WWF and NWA (respectively). I cannot think of anyone better than Jericho in the ring since the two legends I already mentioned. I do think that the WWE has a hot superstar right now and if they use him right, he can be the top heel for the company and could bring in huge draws with the top faces, and could help make new faces, and make new stars of the future.

People can say that he’s a hypocrite for turning his back on his fans to be a heel (Ricky ‘the Dragon’ Steamboat reference right here), but who else could be a hotter heel than Jericho? Randy Orton is there, and trying not to knock the guy, but Jericho has more experience to offer than Orton, and has more skill in the ring than Orton, in my opinion. Jericho is a diamond that I hope the WWE capitalizes on, I do believe that they can make the mega-bucks (Andre the Giant and ‘Million Dollar Man’ reference) with him as their top heel.

To conclude this article, the lyrics I used are Fozzy’s Enemy, Jericho’s band, from their third album ‘All That Remains,’ and I hope Jericho would be the WWE’s top heel and go against guys like Cena, Undertaker, and Michaels, before those guys get out and while Jericho still has his heat. Orton could take a lesson from Jericho on the mic, than Orton may become a hot heel like Mr. Jericho. Jericho, if you read this, thank you for the memories, and thanks for being my favorite wrestler, eeeeeeeeeeeever! The Intercontinental Championship: Who’s the Greatest in History?



What are your thoughts when you hear and think of the Intercontinental Heavyweight Championship? Do you think of such great matches like Steamboat/Savage/WrestleMania III or the Michaels/Ramon/Ladder Match at WrestleMania X? Or do you think of such great wrestlers that held it like Ricky Steamboat, “Macho Man” Randy Savage, “the Heartbreak Kid” Shawn Michaels, Razor Ramon, Diesel, Jeff Jarrett, Randy Orton, Santino Marrella, or even Chris Jericho? I do hope that when you guys hear and think of the Intercontinental Championship, you do think of when the title did mean something in the business, like it did prior to 2000ish and, in my opinion, in the past couple of years.

The reason why I believe the Intercontinental Title didn’t mean anything more a good part of the 2000’s is because I couldn’t think of any matches for the IC title that stood out like recently or even from the 90’s. In my honest opinion, I don’t think anyone (or any match for that matter) could outdo the Intercontinental Title match from WrestleMania X.

The match at WrestleMania X in 1994 put Shawn Michaels, part challenger, part guy who never lost the title before he got suspended in ’93, against Razor Ramon, part champion, well, most champion, but never beating Michaels for the title. So when Michaels came back on television after his suspension, he came back with the title he originally had when he was the champ. With this tension, and WrestleMania around the corner, add a steel ladder, you had a great match waiting to happen.

I watched this match last night just to relive that match. I remember renting the VHS tape from the video store when I was younger, gee, must have been 1995ish to, gee, must to about 2000ish when I moved, then when the WrestleMania Anthology came out, I had to get it on DVD and relive that match. I pull out that ppv and match everyone couple months. That had to be the greatest IC title match, ever… Or should I say eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeever!

Enter Chris Jericho, the record setting nine-time Intercontinental Championship, winning his seventh (at that time, record setting) in September 2004 at Unforgiven against Christian, get this, in a Ladder match. Jericho won his eighth Intercontinental Championship (breaking his seventh title reign) on Raw in March 2008 against Jeff Hardy, then his ninth against Rey Mysterio at Extreme Rules in a No Holds Barred match. It’s giving the title to guys, like Jericho, a former World Champ, or guys who will be future World champs.

To me, that’s why the IC title sucked in the 2000’s, it changed hands way too many times for a good champion to come in and hold it, or even good match or two to come in and steal the show.

That’s why I believe Jericho is the greatest Intercontinental Champion. He’s a former five-time World Champion, he doesn’t need to be put in the mid-card matches, but he’s there. He can help make the new faces of the business with being the Intercontinental Champion. And whoever tries to break his record, closest has to win it four times to even come to pass Jericho’s record by one. And we all know if Jericho catches wind of this, he’ll win the title a couple of more times, just to stay on top.

One Year Ago Today and One Day Ago Yesterday

It was one year ago today that I took the metal plane over the pond. That's where my heart and mind's at, hopefully the Ghanians give back my heart and mind back to the summer projectians that are flying high once again over there currently as I type on my keyboard, stumming away the time. People who are heading overseas or even staying stateside, let's keep them in our thoughts and prayers throughout the summer, praying that God touches their hearts, minds, and lifes, as well as changes them for the better and for His glory.

And last night was WWE Judgment Day. The only match I cared for, what a freakin' joke! Jericho should of won the Intercontinental Championship for the record setting ninth time, but didn't. The one who retained, to my sources, has a knee injury that he's working on right now! There can't be a bigger joke than such! That's why I am syaing that the WWE is screwing with Chris Jericho! Jericho demands better! Unless they're gonna continue this storyline throughout the summer and have Jericho win the title this summer... Let's hope so... And I hope that when Jericho is on Smackdown, they don't misuse him like they did on Raw... I do hope Jericho can hold the title more than a month and a half, drop it for eight days because someone was complaining backstage, win it, then lose it to a guy who was out for three months due to a neck injury. This is why today's wrestling is starting to lose a fan of over two decades...

John Cena's Overrated.....Chris Jericho's Underrated

Another wrestling blog... And a blog that I am passionate about, you can ask anyone who's watched wrestling with me any within the past year and a half. Couple of the biggest guys in the business today that are in the WWE are Chris Jericho and John Cena. These two have a storied history with one another, and it goes back to the summer of 2006 were Cena "retired" Jericho after Monday Night Raw, the night after SummerSlam, where Jericho lost the first ever "You're Fired" match, were the loser gets fired when the winner walks out with the WWE Championship and his job. Then after Jericho came back after his time off from the business, after Jericho turned heel and won the World Heavyweight title on Raw, Cena comes back from an injury, first night back, beats Jericho for the title. To me, this pisses me off. The reason is it took Jericho a good year after being away from the ring to get the World title and Cena's first night back, they give him the title, killing Jericho's build-up and the heat he was getting. Why does this bother me? I believe John Cena is overrated and Chris Jericho is underrated. Cena seems to always be in the main event picture since WrestleMania 21 back in 2005 and it seems like somethings wrong if he doesn't have the top World title around his waist. Jericho, on the other hand, never had a real chance to run with the World title. Jericho's longest reign was when he was the Undisputed WWF World Champion, but the last fued he was in as champ it turned into a Triple H-Stephaine fued with Jericho's title on the line. This kind of stuff is total bull s***! Cena's longest title reign is longer than Jericho's five put together, and add about six months. Jericho's been busting his rear end a heck of a lot longer than Cena, and has a better ring skills then Cena will ever have. To conclude this rant about how much Cena sucks and Jericho's reciving it, if I ran the WWE, Cena would be the top mid-card, nothing more, and Jericho going back and forth, having long title reigns (longer than six months) because he can have a fued with a broom stick and make it look good.

...Which is why Cena's overrated and Jericho's underrated...
